I have always photographed the solitary object or atmospheric landscape, usually devoid of human presence. My pictures emphasize the separate, self-contained, and ephemeral nature of life: sparkling water, metropolises viewed through clouds, people floating in pools. Meditative, singular images attract me. Lately I have played along the frontiers of photographic surface, developing an encaustic finish for my work that gives it a textural, almost skin like surface, a physical presence. The surface also means that my work does not need to be glassed and therefore feels completely immediate and tangible.
